A private, single-owner application
Home HVAC Monitor is personal home-automation software written and operated by one individual for use in that person’s own home. It is not a public service and not a commercial product. It has no sign-up, no customer accounts, and no other users, and it is not offered to anyone other than its owner.
What it does
- Reads temperature, humidity, heating and cooling setpoints, HVAC operating state, and thermostat status from the owner’s own Google Nest thermostats.
- Records those readings, and the change events the thermostats report, in a database on the owner’s privately operated home server.
- Derives HVAC run time, duty cycle, and how quickly each zone’s temperature responds while the system is running.
- Shows charts and diagnostics on a private dashboard so the owner can characterize HVAC performance and notice changes over time, for example after service work.
Why the data are collected
Thermostat data are collected only for the owner’s personal home-automation and HVAC-performance analysis: monitoring, diagnostics, and historical analysis of the owner’s own heating and cooling equipment. Nothing is collected about anyone else, and the data are not used for any other purpose.
Google data and API use
The application connects to the owner’s own thermostats through Google’s Smart Device Management (SDM) API, using a single OAuth scope, https://www.googleapis.com/auth/sdm.service, and only reads data. Google user data are never sold, are not used for advertising, and are not shared with third parties for their own purposes.
